DIY Shea Butter Facial & Body Lotion For Dry Sensitive Skin

Every woman seeks some tender loving care and one of the go to product to feel immediately cared for is our tallow facial lotion or shea butter facial cream moisturizers for dry sensitive skin.
We know that the right facial cream can uplift our spirit as we apply it to our face and body while enjoying its texture, how it glides on our skin and the scent it exudes.
This formula promotes several health benefits not only in deep moisturizing dry sensitive skin lotion to retain water in your skin, helping collagen and elasticity in the tissues but also in pain relief, joint healing, wound repair, and anti-inflammation.
This DIY face and body lotion formula was born out of necessity as I was so sensitive to chemicals and all the additives that are included in today's commercial face creams. Even the ones that claim to be organic or natural had components that irritated my sensitive skin.
By learning how to make lotion for your own skin care regiment you will notice how much money you'll save! It's astronomical. It's a win win. And you can make enough homemade face moisturizer that will last you 6 to 8 months up to 1 year depending on how much you use.

Ingredient List
16 oz. Shea Butter (raw African)
3 - 4 tbsp. Tallow (beef rendered fat recipe)
Note: if you are vegan / vegetarian, you can remove Tallow fat. This recipe can be done without. I did it for many years without any tallow with great success. Tallow will add to its smoothness and bring more moisture into your skin.
2 Tbsp. Organic Castor Oil
4 - 6 Tbsp Culinary Almond Oil
3 Tbsp Argan Oil
3 Tbsp Calendula Oil
2 Tbsp Arnica Oil
1 Tsp. Vitamin E Oil (or 4 - 6 capsules)
5 x 1000mg Borage Oil in Capsules
Mix all the above ingredients in a deep stainless steel saucepan or dish.
Use an egg beater 5 speed (black and decker hand mixer works great) and mix at a slow speed until you start seeing a smooth consistency without too many chunks.
Increase the speed of your egg beater and mix until smooth for a rich creamy lighter color texture.
This could take a while to incorporate it all into one homogenized mixture.
You'll need to remove the chunks of shea butter from the inside of the egg beater paddles with a mini silicon spatula from time to time to ensure all the chunks are being incorporated and blended in.

NOTE: If your mixture is too hard add Tallow or a tablespoon of your favorite oil from the ingredient list.
If your mixture is too lose add shea butter to thicken your moisturizer.
The consistency can vary depending on your preference. The texture I look for is similar to a thick night cream or even thicker, sort of like a soft butter or heavy sour cream.
Add Essential Oils for Fragrance and Therapeutic Benefits (optional)
This is essentially to add scent to your skin care although essential oils have therapeutic and medicinal benefits.
By adding them at the end you can make different batches with different scents. You can make different blends for different needs and purposes. I am giving you many examples below.
But overall be creative, follow your nose, and use what's in your bathroom cabinet.

Morning moisturizer: to energize and revitalize: Lavender, Eucalyptus, Peppermint and one of my favorite Bergamot.
Stress Free Blend: Patchouli, Cedarwood, Lime
Peace & Tranquility Blend: Frankincense, Bergamot, Clary Sage
You can also purchase already made blends for peace & tranquility, or stress relief blends, restful blend to help your sleep for your night cream, etc. I use those often and they work great!
Note: Make sure to purchase therapeutic grade essential oils that are undiluted and 100% pure to receive the full benefits of these precious oils. If you can, purchase them from a reputable source such as Doterra or Young Living. I am not an affiliate to these brands but I do use them from time to time amongst other brands that I have added in these affiliate links above.
Personally, i no longer add any essential oils in my skincare cream because I love it plain! I love the earthy smell to it and I like simplicity.
But for many years I added lavender, Frankincense, cedarwood. And on my facial cream I added a stress relief blend already made, particularly after my traumatic brain injury! I needed all the stress relief I could find.
Perfect Skincare Formula for Women Over 40 with Dry, Sensitive Skin

The Back story
I originally developed this face and body lotion when I felt in great need of moisture!
After 7 years of living in the High Desert of New Mexico, I desperately needed protection against the harsh weather conditions of this arid and beautiful land. In the Spring we get high winds that dry up any surface whether it is your skin or the land!
With almost 300 days of sunshine per year, the humidity levels can be as low as 3% to 10% and to never go much higher than 54%, our skin and hair gets devitalized quickly and stripped of its natural lush, softness, elasticity, and suppleness that would normally be existant in other climates.
I also had in mind women going through perimenopause (40+ years old), and menopause where at that age a noticeable change in skin, in behaviors, in moods is witnessed due to hormonal changes.
If you are seeing yourself emotionally sensitive with heightened anger, frustration, depression with increased mood swings, and feeling like you are on a roller-coaster ride where you simply do not recognize yourself anymore; your hormonal system is most likely on the move.
You are changing from the inside out and it is leaving you a bit helpless, confused, not recognizing yourself anymore. Your skin will look drier, less youthful, with a lack of luster., and start showing signs of wrinkles.
This moisturizer will make you feel wonderful and counter all of the above mentioned. At the very least it will help you feel better and calmer.
There are a simple herbal remedy protocol you can follow as well to overcome this inevitable change of life (menopause), and make you feel whole again. I'll add it in my next blog with a link HERE. (not yet available)
